Home Sweet Home - An Embroidered Workbox

I've started a new embroidery project and it's the biggest project I've ever attempted. It's called Home Sweet Home, An Embroidered Workbox by Carolyn Pearce. When I first came across a post about this little workbox for needlework tools, on an embroidery group on Facebook, I was simply enchanted. I dug around and found a good used copy and only flinched a little at paying over $40.00 for it. Inspirations Publishing is in the process of releasing a 10th Anniversary edition. I may actually get that one too, because it has a couple of new projects for cute needlework accessories which were not in the earlier edition.

I've followed the example Janet Granger used on her blog and am making the little accessories first. This past weekend, I used my fancy lightbox and traced the pin cushion pattern. I've traced a couple of larger embroidery patterns with relative ease, but this tiny pattern on a nice linen/cotton blend gave me a major headache. I tried it with my Frixxion pen first and the linen fibers were shifting a bit under the ball-point. So I tried an ultra fine point Sharpie in light blue. It bled into the fibers a little, so it wasn't quite a sharp enough line to suit me. I tried a fine point Micron and the line was a little thicker than I wanted. Then I went back and re-read Janet Granger's post on transferring her Home Sweet Home patterns, and realized that she used a sharp pencil. So I'm going to use the one I have as a test pattern and then I will likely try it again with a cleaner pencil tracing.

Please note: The photo I've added is for reference only, to show the problem areas I had in my copying and the difference between the pattern and my tracing. DO NOT USE THIS PHOTO TO COPY THIS PATTERN!. Ms. Pearce has worked hard developing the Home Sweet Home patterns and the beautifully detailed book for many years now and Ms. Pearce's instruction in a variety of needlework skills is worth every penny of the cost.

The 10th Anniversary edition is on backorder now and is due to be released in September. It's a delightful book with thorough instruction in more advanced stitches. It is a valuable addition for any stitcher's library. You can order this special book at the link below.

I'll keep you updated on my progress with this fun project.
